Resident Evil 1 remake had better not cut the Black Tiger boss fight

With rumours that Capcom is getting ready to announce a Resident Evil 1 remake, fans are hoping the developer doesn't cut the iconic Black Tiger boss fight.

When it comes to iconic franchises from Capcom's back catalogue, none keeps shuffling quite like Resident Evil. While 2012's Resident Evil 6 is held as a particular low, the series is now riding high on the success of RE: Village and a slew of successful remakes.

A new-gen Resident Evil 5 remake might be next on the cards chronologically, but for many, they'd prefer a revamp of the OG in the style of 2019's Resident Evil 2. Despite the 1996 classic getting the remake treatment on the GameCube and 2015's HD remaster, we'd do anything to go back to the Spencer Mansion.

Resident Evil fans are worried a remake could remove the Black Tiger

The Resident Evil games are known for creating some weird and wonderful monsters like giant lake sharks, zombie monkeys, Batipillars, and whatever the hell Lickers are, but sadly, Capcom seems to be suffering from a case of arachnophobia. After spiders were cut from the 2020 RE3 remake, players are worried the OG will do the same.

Over on the Resident Evil subreddit, fans were mulling over the idea of the inevitable RE1 remake and what would be different this time around. The Black Tiger spider boss is the whole reason some people are scared of spiders, but after RE3 swapped its spiders for "flea-like parasites," one player joked, "Someone at Capcom got a phobia."

Someone else added, "If they add hyper realistic giant killer spiders then it'd be the scariest Resident Evil in the series," and a third concluded, "My irrational fear of spiders wants them to not return, but the purist in me wants them there." Even though we know you have to move with the times, omitting the Black Tiger seems like a massive misstep.

Resident Evil 4 included the Spider Plagas enemies, but remember, it wasn't long until modders gave you an option to remove them. Even though many modern games have an arachnophobia mode, the Black Tiger's presence as a pretty major boss battle means it's not as simple as blurring it out.

Spiders were apparently missing from some remakes because the devs couldn't nail their movement, but assuming that's been ironed out, we should see the Black Tiger crawl into our lives and be given the justice it deserves. Now, we just need Capcom to actually announce a RE1 remake.
