Since Jumpman was rebranded as that portly plumber for 1985's Super Mario Bros., the Mushroom Kingdom (and the gaming industry) has been in safe hands. Considering Mario is considered as the seminal platformer, it's no surprise we've seen plenty of homages over the years. However, we might've just found the worst.
As the cornerstone of the industry, we've seen the Mario formula reshaped for everything from Donkey Kong Country to Crash Bandicoot, Banjo-Kazooie to Sonic the Hedgehog - taking their influence from Mario. Nintendo is notoriously protective of its IP, so we imagine Supertan Marioner 3D Infinity World Adventures won't be too popular.
What Is This Mario Clone?
With Mario locked to Nintendo, it means PlayStation and Xbox owners have never been able to backflip into action as the overall-wearing hero. Well, unless through nefarious means. For the first time ever, Mario is (technically) playable on Xbox.
Supertan Marioner 3D Infinity World Adventures is an endless 3D runner that appears to steal the Mario model from Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. It's an eerie adventure as you scroll along the top of the screen without any form of sound. Maybe the developer drew the line at actually ripping soundtracks from Nintendo.
If you're sold on Supertan Marioner 3D Infinity World Adventures, we have some bad news. Presumably seeing the legal quagmire heading its way, Microsoft quickly stripped it from the store. Even though the store page now comes up blank, streamer NodaIE managed to buy the game for €4 and showed off some gameplay... if you can call it that.
What's Next For Mario?
After the success of Super Mario Odyssey in 2017, there have been questions about where we go next and whether Cappy will be spinning into action again. While the likes of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine have been one and done, Odyssey looks increasingly like it'll join Super Mario Galaxy in games that get a sequel.
There have been some sketchy leaks that the mythical Odyssey 2 will let you actually play as Luigi AND include a new Cappy variant, called Bowler. Nintendo is yet to make the game official, meaning it's been five years and counting since our last full-blown Mario adventure. Either way, we don't think Nintendo will be looking at Supertan Marioner 3D Infinity World Adventures for Inspiration.
