Robert Pattinson’s Batman isn't getting his own tie-in game after all

James Gunn has poured cold water on earlier reports of a game set in the Robert Pattinson Batman universe.

Update:

Posting on Threads, DC Studio's co-chief James Gunn said of the report "Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever."

Responding to a fan's question about the project, Gunn is definitive in his denial. Here's hoping it's not too long before we get another Batman title - at least we have Arkham Shadow in the meantime.

Original Story Follows:

It sounds like Warner Bros. Games has a few bats in the belfry, as the Dark Knight could be set to spread his wings in a brand-new video game. While this sadly isn't a continuation of Rocksteady's Arkhamverse, there's the altogether more exciting opportunity of a game set within the world of Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Batman games aren't exactly new, but it's fair to say we've come a long way from the isometric Batman from 1986. Rocksteady earned critical acclaim with its Arkham trilogy from 2009 - 2015, then seemingly dropped the ball with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Now, is R-Patz's Batman destined to suit up next?

A game in The Batman universe is apparently in the works

We've seemingly moved beyond the era of movie tie-in video games, but once upon a time, imagine watching Furiosa on the silver screen and then racing around as a pixelated Anya Taylor-Joy. There was once supposed to be a video game tie-in for The Dark Knight, and we can only imagine how great that would've been.

Reeves already has grand plans to expand his Batman mythos, and while work on a sequel to 2022's The Batman has gone suspiciously quiet, we know Colin Farrell is leading The Penguin spin-off series. Supposed series focusing on the GCPD and Arkham Asylum have been shelved, but instead, we could be moving into the form of video games.

According to Puck, Warner Bros. Discovery's well-documented crisis talks have led to a fire sale on its biggest IPs. We previously reported how Warner Bros. Games could be in trouble, but as a silver lining, the outlet suggests that a video game based in the world of The Batman is in the works.

The site explains, "The various WBD divisions are beginning to collaborate more closely on properties like the upcoming Penguin HBO show and game, both seeded in the 2022 The Batman movie." There's no word on how far along the project is or what it involves, but Robert Pattinson's Batman seems like an easy sell.

Video games don't get much better than the highs of Rocksteady's Arkham City, and with Gotham Knights proving that a Batman-free Batman game isn't all it's cracked up to be, players have been crying out to see Bruce Wayne's vigilante alter ego take flight once again.

Kill the Justice League also skipped out on giving us a Batman story, and we all know how that ended. Imagine getting Pattinson on board to lend his likeness and voice to a video game set in the world of The Batman. As well as riding us over until The Batman sequel, it could flesh out this world like Reeves clearly intends.

We should take all of the above with a pinch of salt, and in the aftermath of KTLJ reportedly losing WBD a whopping $200 million, we're worried that Batman games could be resigned to the bowels of the Batcave for the foreseeable future. Still, a dark and gritty game in the style of The Batman sounds like a money-spinner to us.
