Rocket League esports is back, and the 2024 calendar is fully underway as the first set of regional qualifiers have been completed and teams are already booking themselves tickets to the unknown location of Major 1.
With the new RLCS 2024 Season in full swing, it's also marked the time for Epic Games to roll out the new team decals, as it has now launched 31 exclusive skins for the biggest organisations in the world.
But the highly-anticipated update isn't without a snag, as it appears some designers haven't got what they submitted.
RLCS 2024 decals criticised by Luminosity after post-design restrictions
Over the last few days, teams have been showing off their own concepts and art to promote the team bundles that are now live.
However, in the case of Luminosity, they have mocked their own decal, as it appears the paintwork has been dulled and the design has been altered slightly.
Taking to social media, Luminosity designer Ryan Crowhurst said, "The brief we received included anodized as an optional paint finish, which our decal was designed around. As far as I'm aware, we never got the info that this wasn't going to be an option anymore and that it was being restricted to matte/glossy only.
"The glossy finish turns it to yellow, which was meant to come across as gold, so the final in-game decal is going to look different."
The designer continued to say that other teams were told about the paint, but amid layoffs at Epic Games, it appears the wires were crossed.Â
He also added that he, and Luminosity, don't blame anyone for the issue, but "it just really sucks it's not going to be available in its best/originally designed form."
RLCS 2024 Decals go down a treat with fresh new designs
Aside from a few paint problems though, the RLCS 2024 decals appear to be going down well once again, with teams buying into the thought process of the wackier the better (not to the extent of that horrendous Vitality skin in 2022-23 though).
Already, some of the most popular decals come in the way of G2 Esports, Moist Esports, and TSM, all of whom have opted for full-body patterns, ranging from samurai themes to printed dragons.
As usual, the RLCS fandom has swooped in to cop these decals over the Rocket League x The Mandalorian crossover, which is still a sore spot to press on after the removal of player-to-player trading.
