Following Epic Games' acquisition of Psyonix and subsequently both the Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars and Rocket League titles, fans of the Soccar series have been waiting patiently to see just what the gaming giants can do.
Yet time has ticked by and, aside from going free-to-play and a couple of pretty cool crossovers (Lightning McQueen especially), fans have grown weary that the developers and publishers are combining to make new content.
This might just be about to be debunked - and not in the way most would hope - as new reports suggest that the Rocket League team is getting "heavily involved" with the rumoured Fortnite mini-game Rocket League Racing.
Epic Games 'confirm' Rocket League Racing mode with teaser placeholder image
Â
Rocket League fans haven't been too happy in recent weeks after player-to-player item trading was removed so that it could reportedly pave the way for the Rocket League to enter Fortnite in a new game mode.
This mode would see Rocket League port into Unreal Engine 5 for the first time ever, even if it is not within the main game itself and rather comes through Fortnite.
Now, a recent leak from "ShiinaBR" indicates the Epic Games themselves are confirming that Rocket League will be "heavily involved" in this new Racing mode as they have now added an RL-related placeholder image to the Racing mode's Playlist icon.
Epic has yet to confirm the rumours about the Rocket League and Fortnite crossover, but ShiinaBR claims that a Racing playlist is in the files already and this placeholder image brings everything together.
Here's Why Rocket League's "heavy" involvement in Fortnite is a positive sign to come
Although its clear that Rocket League fans have reason to be apprehensive over this as of late, that could change depending on the success of Rocket League Racing in Fortnite.Â
Not only could Psyonix and Epic really experiment with RL in UE5 before rolling it out in Rocket League itself, but this finally gives Epic the opportunity to bring over those Fortnite players to RL, whose player count is at an all-time low.
Maybe, just maybe, the Fortnite boomers could begin whipping out the Battle Bus in Racing for the first time and think that this is a great concept, pushing through a new wave of players to RL that the title needs, and deserves.
