In many ways, it felt as though GTA VI wouldn't ever arrive.
GTA VI is almost like a mythological beast at this point, with its reputation spoken to such heights that the game itself could never come close to the quality that players expect of it. But, even so, the game has to arrive eventually.
After fake leaks, real leaks, pretend claims and even gaming event stage invasions, fans seem to be reaching the end of their tether.
Lucky for them, though, the wait is finally over. You heard correctly - Rockstar has finally confirmed the existence of "the next Grand Theft Auto", expected to be the franchise's mainline entry.

Rub your eyes, it isn't a dream. Rockstar Games has done the unthinkable and revealed perhaps the biggest game of its career.
The reveal has come via Rockstar Games' Twitter account.
Noting that the developer celebrates its 25th anniversary in December, a tweet thread from Sam Houser culminates in confirmation of the 'next Grand Theft Auto'.
When is the official GTA 6 trailer coming?
If it weren't for further reports we wouldn't know what else to expect after this small reveal, but thankfully, recent reports from Bloomberg had indicated that the trailer for the game could be coming next month in December - and Houser's tweet confirmed it.
Only 'early December' was given as a timeframe, meaning we won't have much longer to wait for a glimpse at what could be the most anticipated game of all time.
It's hard to know how to respond to news like this when it's so earth-shatteringly big for the gaming industry, but we'll say this much - GTA VI has been in the works for a very long time, and fans have been expecting it for even longer.
There is little that can be said to dampen the hype that the game has already garnered, especially on a day like today - so we're just going to have to hope that Rockstar's biggest play yet is going to pay off. One thing's for sure, though, and that's that GTA VI is finally announced to the public, officially. Thank goodness. We're going for a lie-down.
