Rocksteady reportedly working on a new Batman title after Suicide Squad flop

Rocksteady is back with the Bat, at least according to one leaker.

Of all the great games launching this year, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is unlikely to be remembered fondly. Rocksteady's first attempt at a live service game fell flat despite a fun story and good performances (we quite enjoyed parts of it), but it appears the company could go back to the Bat.

That's according to XboxEra co-founder Nick 'Shpeshal_Nick' Baker, who quoted a Game Awards post on X (formerly Twitter) asking for the "dream game developer for the next Batman game". Baker says he @heard Rocksteady are back making it", even suggesting Sony is "trying to moneyhat it", with the implication being it could get some kind of preferential treatment for PlayStation players.

Rocksteady could be going back to Gotham

While one commenter was dubious, suggesting the game could be a remaster or an Arkham Trilogy revision, Baker doubled down on his report that it's a "new game".

While rumours have swirled for years about Rocksteady working on titles focused on Batman Beyond, Superman, and even the Justice League, Suicide Squad underperformed compared to Warner Bros' expectations.

Rocksteady Studios made its name with 2009's Batman Arkham Asylum, before 2011's Arkham City. The final mainline game, Arkham Knight, launched in 2015, before a VR title a year later.

Eight years later, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League marked a return to the Arkhamverse. Whether another game in the franchise would be on the cards remains to be seen, but here's hoping if it is true it's a return to the single-player roots of Arkham Asylum et al.

WB Montreal, another studio, developed Batman: Arkham Origins before creating its own Batman universe with Gotham Knights. That game wasn't particularly well received either, sadly, meaning we're still waiting for a Batman resurgence.
