Rocksteady's Arkham Games Are Coming To Switch

A now-removed link appears to have confirmed that the Arkham games are coming to Nintendo Switch sooner rather than later.

Mr. J is getting the last laugh, as it sounds like Rocksteady’s acclaimed Arkham Trilogy is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch. While a lot of us are looking ahead at Rocksteady’s delayed Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and Warner Bros. Montreal’s Gotham Knights - which is thought to be something of a spiritual successor to the Arkhamverse - let’s go back to the start and see the Dark Knight spread his wings.

In 2009, Rocksteady released Batman: Arkham Asylum as a reasonably basic trip around that infamous home for Gotham City’s degenerate villains.

Busting free from the confines of Arkham, many hold 2011’s Arkham City as the best of the bunch, while 2015’s Arkham Knight rounded off the story in style. In the world of often disappointing superhero video games, the Arkham Trilogy stands head and spandex above the rest.

Is The Arkham Trilogy Coming To Switch?

The news comes courtesy of French retailer WTT, which had a now-removed link for the Arkham Trilogy on Switch for €60. If this is the case, all three games will be bundled together on Nintendo’s home console for the first time ever. Just imagine being able to take your quest to save Gotham on the move.

There was a release date holder of August 31, 2022, but there’s a chance it could change. Notably, there are reports of a Nintendo Direct in the next couple of weeks - which would be a great time to announce the Arkham Trilogy. According to VGC, it was WTT that prematurely leaked The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Switch, so this one’s looking likely.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo gamers have been able to play an Arkham game. Arkham City was previously available on the Wii U, while Armature Studios’ Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate was on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. It remains to be seen what the trilogy will play like, but with Batman: Arkham Collection releasing in 2019 with remastered versions of the first two games alongside the Premium Edition of Arkham Knight, we expect something similar.

What’s Next For The Arkhamverse

Although there were reports of a fourth Arkham game featuring Damien Wayne and the Court of Owls, the rumours never came to pass. Instead, there’s Kill the Justice League that’s set in this continuity but will feature a new cast of characters. Considering Batman died at the end of Arkham Knight, we’re unsure whether he’ll sneak a cameo in among the brainwashed heroes like Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern.

There were also plans of a Rocksteady game focused on Superman that also never came to pass, although we’ve bits of supposed artwork and hope it could return one day. With Matt Reeves’ The Batman having a decidedly Arkham theme in terms of combat and even Robert Pattinson’s suit, a Switch port of the trilogy would be well-timed to release the same year as the superhero blockbuster. It remains to be seen whether Commissioner Gordon is lighting up the Bat Signal on Switch, so watch this space.
