It seems that the gaming industry is truly bracing for the impact of the next Grand Theft Auto, and with years of waiting for GTA 6, it's frankly hard to blame it.

Analysts and fans alike expect the game to be the biggest launch of all time following its predecessor's absurd successes, and when you consider that, the industry's relative quiet in 2024 starts to make a little more sense.

Fans on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles are saving up to be welcomed into the new crime sim's world, and it's clear to see that even a year ahead, they're fizzing with excitement. It looks like PlayStation is pretty keen, as the game could end up with a new console to match its power.

New details about the rumoured PS5 Pro leak

A new leak has hit the internet that makes some lofty claims about the rumoured PS5 Pro, and Insider Gaming has claimed that the leak itself is legitimate.

Of course, take the leak with a pinch of salt, but it's claimed that the console renders 45% faster than the base console, offers 2-3x ray-tracing, supports 8K visuals planned for a future SDK version, and offers new upscaling and antialiasing solutions.

The changes between consoles are growing more incremental with each new upgrade, but it seems pretty likely that this new evolution of the PS5 will be more powerful than its little brother in a substantial way.

It all sounds pretty good, offering PlayStation fans hope that they can stay ahead of the curve while the Xbox Series X is, on paper, the more powerful console on the market - but what does this mean for GTA 6?

PS5 Pro rumoured to launch in time for GTA 6

Along with the specs of the console, it is noted that the console appears to be eyeing up a launch window of late 2024, meaning that players will have plenty of time to pick up the souped-up console in time for GTA 6 - a game that is likely going to benefit hugely from the hardware step-up.

Remembering the difference in loading times between console generations in Red Dead Redemption 2, we could be in for a similar shift here. If the PS5 Pro matches GTA 6's massive upgrade, this could potentially be good news for PC players.

With no release date on the horizon for Steam or any other kind of PC-based marketplace, this could be the perfect point of deferral for those feeling left out in the cold by Rockstar's decision to focus on consoles at launch. If the PS5 Pro can come anywhere near PC performance, PC gamers might be forced to part with their cash for the console.

We've already heard about the PS5 Pro being saved for GTA 6, and now we're reaching the point in the gaming generation when something new is needed in the hardware department to keep players engaged. Other signs point to Xbox releasing its own console upgrade, so we're just in time to kick off the console wars all over again.
