Whenever a new game makes a splash, there are two inevitable questions these days: Will there be a sequel, and will there be an adaptation? Although we were once worried about the 'video game curse', there's been a recent resurgence in live-action and animated movies and TV series.
The likes of HBO's The Last of Us and Amazon's Fallout have shown us how it's done in live-action, while Netflix's Castlevania anime and its spin-off have been beloved cartoon capers. Although the recent box office bomb of Borderlands has the curse rearing its head, it's clear video game adaptations are big business.

As studios comb through their back catalogue to search for IPs that could be fit for the small and silver screen, there's one that's missing out on making the most of its legacy. With FromSoftware boasting everything from Demon's Souls to Bloodborne, Elden Ring to Armored Core, it's only a matter of time until the developer realises it's sat on a goldmine.
That doesn't mean we haven't heard about potential live-action and animated adaptations, with rumours of a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice anime piquing everyone's interest. Sadly, a new post from anime expert @d0nut2x claims the rumoured series could already be in trouble.
Although FromSoftware is yet to officially confirm a Sekiro anime, the account suggests it's struggling to get off the ground and explains, "The anime adaptation of "Sekiro" lacks resources, and it depends on how many people Kenichi Kutsuna(the director of the anime) can gather."
This comes after a different report suggested anime studio Qzil.la! would be producing the Sekiro anime, already ringing alarm bells due to its lack of experience and mention that the series would have a "low episode count."
News of a Sekiro anime first started appearing on X back in 2023 (via IGN), but with the original account suspended, the idea has been left in limbo. There have been various rumours since, although this latest update doesn't exactly fill us with confidence.
With Sekiro being one of FromSoft's boldest and most narrative-driven games, we can't understand how anyone trying to tackle an anime version wouldn't be throwing unlimited resources at it. There's also been a lot of talk about expanding the Elden Ring IP, with some pretty impressive fan-made anime out there but nothing official from up high.
At the time of writing, we are getting some form of FromSoftware adaptation, with Armored Core confirmed to appear as part of Amazon's Secret Level animated anthology and possibly featuring Keanu Reeves. Armored Core wouldn't be our first choice of FromSoft legend to get an adaptation, but for the time being, it's the only one we're getting.
