Russian streamer "mira" has called out Twitch after she was banned from the platform with seemingly no explanation. However, she argues that it was actually because she was "born in the wrong country."
As Russia's devastating invasion of Ukraine continues to dominate the news, the streaming community and some esports organisations have continued to condemn Russia's violent attacks of the country. While some have called on some wealthy content creators to donate their cash towards Ukrainian aid, others, including some famous streamers from the country, have issued heartfelt statements calling for peace.
In solidarity with Ukraine, many US businesses have started to issue sanctions against Russia, in the hope it will encourage the country to back down and result in peace. However, mira claims she has been caught up in the drama after she was banned from Twitch, alleging it was because she is Russian.
Why Was Mira Banned From Twitch?
On March 4, Mira was devastated to discover that she had been banned from Twitch for seemingly no obvious reason. However, in a YouTube video, which has since been deleted, mira went on to claim that Twitch issued the ban as part of a way to apparently eradicate Russian streamers from the platform.
Her comments coincide with reports that Twitch has suspended pay-outs for streamers located in Russia, with many discovering that PayPal was their only way of making money. However, with PayPal now suspending its services in the country, many content creators have been left without any form of income.
Although, mira is currently based in the US, she claims that the fact she was born in Russia has caused her to be caught up in the drama. According to GAMINGbible, mira stated in the YouTube video: "I didn't do anything f*cking wrong. Not on f*cking Instagram, not on f*cking Twitch, not on f*cking Russia. I was born in the wrong country, I'm sorry."
Has Mira Been Allowed Back On Twitch?
As of writing, mira's Twitch channel is back up and running in after having been banned from the platform in which did a stream, emphasising her claims that she was "banned because [she was] born Russian." However, her Twitter page is still private after she first announced her ban.
As the world continues to show solidarity with Ukraine, it's still unclear as to which US business will be next to issue sanctions against Russia and what effect this could have on the conflict.
