Sledgehammer Games
On the launch day of Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games has already made a public statement surrounding the criticism of its new title in the Call of Duty series.
A lot of the negative feedback stems from a rushed Campaign which is hitting all-time low scores - and even failed to impress our review panel.
Yet it now seems like Sledgehammer has done the best in what time they had, as originally, they reportedly wanted an Advanced Warfare sequel.
Reports claim Sledgehammer Games began an Advanced Warfare sequel production before MW3
Sledgehammer's previous instalments in the CoD series include Modern Warfare 3 (the original), Advanced Warfare, Vanguard, and WWII, and although the less we speak about the latter the better, its other three games have been quite well received.
So much so that according to Bloomberg, Sledgehammer Games began a really early build of Advanced Warfare 2 as the game which would come to release this year.
An Advanced Warfare sequel is high up on the wish list for a lot of fans, who now look back with fond memories of the game which they took for granted.
Bloomberg's reports tie in previous rumours of an Advanced Warfare sequel, which first aired this time last year. But, these previous reports suggested that AW2 was quickly axed a month later.
It wouldn't be the only time that an Advanced Warfare sequel began production either. Previously, a former Sledgehammer Games dev named Bret Robbins claimed that they had made some early prototypes and even a demo level of Advanced Warfare 2 back in 2017 before it was shelved for World War II.
Sledgehammer Games' Advanced Warfare sequel was reportedly shelved for Modern Warfare 3
Continuing in its report, Bloomberg claimed that the futuristic sci-fi game "Codename Anvil" was pitched to Activision, and seemingly began very early production, but "it didn't get very far" before Modern Warfare 3 landed on its lap.
The game reportedly would have had Zombies too, as Sledgehammer Games promised new multiplayer maps and a single-player campaign too.
It's since been reported that staff were confused about Modern Warfare 3 and the timeframe in which to build it, but have worked night and day to get the title over the line.
Production for Modern Warfare 3 allegedly took 16 months, which, when you bear in mind that Treyarch's 2024 Gulf-War-based game will have been in development as soon as their focus was taken off of Black Ops: Cold War three years ago (four years by its release window), Sledgehammer's hopes of making a thrilling three-spoked Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies project seemed bleak from the get-go.
Ultimately though, Sledgehammer has defended its multiplayer efforts especially and has claimed it's "proud" of the final product.
Interestingly, this wouldn't have been the first time Sledgehammer Games reportedly tried to visit its old IP, as they previously even pitched a Vanguard 2, before that was given the can too, less surprisingly.
