Video game prices are hotly contested among fans, but it seems that the conversation is relatively short when it comes to the hands of industry higher-ups.
It feels as though there are a few culprits that heave their prices up at the first opportunity, and as video games approach $70/£70, it keeps a lot of potential players out of the hobby.
It's a shame, and worse still if you judge for inflation, they cost this much even when they were just a smattering of 32-odd pixels. Sony isn't holding back on this either, as many of its games on Steam are getting a big ol' hike.
PlayStation games on Steam's prices just shot up
One Resetera user Chairmanchuck has pointed out that countries around the world are suffering some big price hikes on first-party games for PlayStation on Steam.
As backed up by VGC, the prices of Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Returnal have been amplified on Steam in a long list of countries that includes Canada, China, Colombia, Japan and South Korea.
The site has also terrified even bigger titles like God of War and Spider-Man Remastered are on the block for a bumper price tag. As there's a push from Sony into PC when compared to its traditional console model, this is a worrying sign.
How much are PlayStation games on Steam costing now?
Irritatingly, the prices alternate depending on the region. Prices have cranked up by $10 in Canada, which seems bad, but it gets worse in other territories. Apparently, Japan's Steam prices have gone up between 29% and 32.5%.
It's the worst in Argentina, as the cost of Spider-Man Remastered has doubled, and God of War has gone even further yet. We're not sure why these prices have come up so much and in such an intense and unprecedented manner - but it's not a good sign for PC players.
It would be nice to have some unity across the board, especially as we've been waiting so long for Sony to make good on PC ports. Sony boss Jim Ryan expects around half of all its software sales to be on PC or mobile by 2025, and if this is the case, we suggest you start saving now.
