Sony reportedly working on Horizon Online as it continues live service push
Horizon Online is seemingly Guerilla Games' next project, leaving a threequel a long way off.

You'd be forgiven for feeling a little tired of Horizon. Forbidden West was a great action game with RPG elements, and Zero Dawn was a fantastic 2017 open-world romp. Still, with a remaster and a LEGO title on the way, it's starting to feel like Guerilla's post-apocalyptic universe is suffering from franchise fatigue.
That's not likely to change anytime soon, either, with Bloomberg's Jason Schreier appearing on the Spawn Wave Spawncast to discuss how the series will fit with Sony's much-maligned games as a service strategy.
Horizon Online is Guerilla's next project
In the video above, Schreier says, "Horizon Online is their next product, not the third single-player game".
"Sony PlayStation's live service initiative was no joke, everybody was like "it's live service games all around."
"Horizon is one of the few ones that hasn't been cancelled or hasn't come out and flopped the way Concord did," he adds, noting "a lot of people are working on that".
Why a Horizon Online game could be great
While some will undoubtedly be cautious, given what happened with Concord (which was shut down two weeks after launch), Horizon is already built on fantastic combat against its robotic enemies.
Aloy's bag of weapons and tools makes it fun to tackle the huge metal dinosaurs, and if Horizon Online can tie that into a quest for better gear via loot drops à la Monster Hunter, Sony could be onto something.
Whether it'll be enough to move the needle in the chaotic world of games as a service is another matter, but it seems we'll find out soon enough.
