It's been a few days, but yet, it still feels like a dream - Pokemon Generation 9 is officially on the way. Though many fans feel it could be a little early for the arrival of a whole new host of beasties to grace the franchise, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are on the way regardless - and we couldn't be more excited.
We've seen the first three Pokemon we'll meet on the new adventure in the form of its starters, and there's expected to be many yet to come - but there's one problem, and it's a problem we've been putting up with since Sword and Shield.
Scarlet And Violet Keeps The Problems of Dexit
Dexit means Dexit, it seems. Sadly, Scarlet and Violet are set to maintain the Pokedex problems established in Sword and Shield - namely, that not every Pokemon is going to appear in the game's world, let alone appear at all. The problem has colloquially become known as 'Dexit' and is one hot topic in the franchise's community.
The news was solemnly revealed quietly in an announcement from The Pokemon Company on the games' connectivity with Pokemon Home, the franchise's online PC system. "Each game that can receive Pokemon via Pokemon Home can receive only Pokemon that can be obtained in that particular game," the announcement reads. "To find out what Pokemon appear in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, please look forward to the release of those games." Oof.
Which Pokemon Won't Make The Cut?
As of right now, we simply don't know who's going to make the cut, besides those familiar faces that we saw in the game's reveal trailer, and the three starters that we met at the end of the trailer - Sprigatitio, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.
It's frustrating to know that some of your favourite Pokemon could be axed from the game, and there's every chance that some Pokemon have been sacrificed for good - never to return to the mainline titles. But, we're just going to have to wait until the launch of the titles to see exactly who's made the cut and who's on their way out.
It's a sad side effect of the amazing steps that the franchise has made on the Switch, and it's a reality we're going to have to get used to. Even if we have to say goodbye to some Klefkis and Swinubs along the way, Scarlet and Violet could be major additions to the franchise's lore.
