Space Marine 2 Movement Is Already Beating Black Ops 6

It's all about movement in 2024, and while Treyarch looks to throw out the Call of Duty rulebook with Black Ops 6, it looks like it could have some unexpected competition. Although Black Ops 6 is making a big deal of its Max Payne-inspired omnimovement, sceptics aren't convinced it can 'save' CoD.

In another corner of the gaming world, a young upstart from Saber Interactive is causing a stir. After making a name for itself with the Halo games, the developer is trying something different with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Fans think Space Marine 2 puts Black Ops 6 to shame

Much like how we got Helldivers 2 as a long-awaited sequel in 2024, Space Marine 2 is a follow-up to 2011's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (developed by THQ Nordic). We hadn't expected the title to make much of a splash, but a clip of its 'schmovement' has gone viral on X.

These days, most modern shooters are nausea and headache-inducing romps as you're spun around 360 degrees and constantly mash buttons as bullets fly around you. That's only set to get worse with Black Ops 6 allowing you to slide backwards down stairs while pumping enemies full of lead.

Proving that slow and steady can sometimes win the race, Space Marine 2 is a little slower than your standard shooter - but all the better for it. Even taking to the skies with a jetpack and unloading an arsenal of weapons, you can see exactly what's going on without having to go and lie in a darkened room after playing.

Across the board, critics have been praising Space Marine 2's combat as being visually and technically impressive, with some even saying it sets a new gold standard and surpasses Gears of War. Although your tank-like marines hulk around like industrial freezers, it lends itself to heavy-hitting combat.

Others loved this more leisurely pace when compared to the hot and heavy CoD, with one fan writing, "Instantly makes it better than the new CoD." Another added, "Slower arena arcade shooters like this are infinitely more fun than fast shooters like CoD."

It's refreshing to see a shooter where we can get bearings before ending up as a dripping mess, as someone concluded, "Holy f**k i can actually understand what's going on instead of having a brain hemorrhage! THANK YOU SPACE MARINES!

As fans abandon Helldivers 2 amidst its nerfs, and others vow to boycott Black Ops 6, something like Space Marines 2 could be a surprise underdog that finds itself climbing the charts. There's a lot to love here, and although the multiplayer is criticised for lacking maps right now, Saber Interactive looks like it's onto a winner here.

'Schmovement' is my new go-to. Seriously, though, Black Ops 6 will be the ultimate sweatbox.
