Square Enix is bringing the shutters down on Marvel's Avengers - but not before it unloads all of its cosmetics for free.

Well, it looks like it's finally over. After what many would call too long, Marvel's Avengers is conceding and ceasing development.
The disappointing title was a pretty massive hit to the Marvel's moniker, with players becoming immediately frustrated with its limited approach to its gameplay, especially in its co-op multiplayer.
Marvel's Avengers has kept trundling in spite of fan frustrations, with the few players still remaining being offered new heroes and the War for Wakanda DLC.
Now, it looks like it's finally coming to a close, and Square Enix seems pretty stoked about it.
When Is Square Enix Killing Marvel's Avengers?
A new announcement from Square Enix and the Marvel's Avengers team has confirmed that the game will finally be ending its online live services, after only launching a few years ago.
"After two-and-a-half years and introducing twelve of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, following Update 2.8 on March 31, 2023, we will no longer add new content or features to Marvel’s Avengers," reads the new post made on the game's site.
"All official support for the game will end on September 30, 2023." The post reveals that players' in-game currencies will be converted to materials that will help them in their games from this date, and the online shop will be closed from allowing players to pay in.
"We know this is disappointing news as everyone in our community has such a connection to these characters and their stories," the post goes on to say.
"We're so, so grateful that you came on this adventure with us. Your excitement for Marvel’s Avengers – from your epic Photo Mode shots, to your threads theorizing who our next Heroes would be, to your Twitch streams – has played a large part in bringing this game to life."
But it doesn't end here - because Square Enix have a pretty sweet parting gift for players.
Marvel's Avengers Is Giving Away All Of Its Cosmetics For Free
In a huge move from Square Enix, Marvel's Avengers will offer players full access to game's online shop, letting them download cosmetics, challenge cards and shipments to their heart's content, for absolutely free.
The superhero ensemble will let players into its shop with no fee starting on March 31 2023, before the game's online servers are severed entirely.
It's a great offer for fans, despite how few of them are still around. Marvel's Avengers will officially be over this year, and though we saw this coming, it's still a surprise to see it start to shut up shop. It's the end of an era.
