Happy Final Fantasy week to all who celebrate. Final Fantasy's sixteenth mainline title (blimey) is almost here, and as the game nears its debut, fans are more excited than ever.
Plus, the new title is serving as something of a reintroduction for some fans, as the recent reveal of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has proved that there's more life in the franchise yet. But it looks like it has sprung to life all too soon, and Square Enix is starting to flounder.
Square Enix begs leakers not to spoil Final Fantasy 16
The physical release curse has come for Square Enix. It turns out that physical copies of Final Fantasy XVI have already made their way to fans, and as Square Enix enters the natural panic that comes with a game's early leak, they've asked fans not to spoil it for each other.
"For those who receive a copy ahead of launch, we kindly ask that you do not share any aspect of the game;" a Twitter post from Final Fantasy reads. "Including screenshots, videos, and livestreams, until after Final Fantasy XVI has officially launched." Damn.
Though the company isn't exactly in a position to bargain, it makes sense that it would still make an attempt to quell leaks, that frankly, are inevitable.
Square Enix will be pursuing leaks
Though there aren't any widely known full-game leaks on the internet just yet, Square Enix isn't messing about and has made it very clear that the team will be gunning down leaks with gusto.
"We are in the process of a thorough investigation into illegitimate acquisitions and are acting to limit this ahead of the official launch of the game on June 22nd," opens the statement. Crikey. They're strong words, but we'll have to wait and see if they actually turn into any action. Square Enix is protective, and it's fair enough.
It's Final Fantasy, for heaven's sake - of course they're taking damage control to the Nth degree. Leakers, you have been warned, and rumour has it that Square Enix has a pretty big collection of gigantic swords that you might not want to find yourself under.
