Star Wars: Bounty Hunter fans sceptical after trailer reveal

Aspyr Media is bringing back LucasArts' beloved Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, but with the developer having a troubled past with Star Wars remasters, players are sceptical about the release.

Star Wars games are a dime a dozen these days, and we don't just mean thanks to upcoming releases like Outlaws, Eclipse, and Skydance New Media's mystery project. Rereleasing classic titles from the galaxy far, far away is just as popular, and now, a firm favourite is being defrosted from its carbonite.

Aspyr Media has just dropped a surprise trailer for a remastered Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. While Jango Fett might've been sidelined in Attack of the Clones, the expanded media has given Boba Fett's father much more to sink his teeth into. Now, we're revisiting his 2002 origin story.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remastered leaves fans divided

While we're more than happy to see Bounty Hunter giving us a blast from the past, the fact it's coming from Aspyr is dividing fandom. Notably, Aspyr worked on the troubled Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.

Remember, some are still waiting for a refund for the KotOR II DLC that the 2022 Switch release never got. The likes on the Bounty Hunter trailer were mainly positive, but if only the comments were the same. One angry gamer wrote, "Fix Battlefront and maybe I'll buy this one."

Another added, "Remember this is the same Aspyr that just gave us that absolute dog water Battlefront Collection. I want to hope this will be good but I'm not trusting Aspyr,' while a third said, "I am still waiting for Rogue Squadron that Aspyr said they would do several years ago."

Other than the fact that Bounty Hunter is coming to modern systems and will be released on August 1, it's also not clear what's new here. It definitely looks like the OG game, suggesting that whatever Aspyr has done, it's not going to break the mould. At least we know you can unlock Boba Fett when hitting 100%.

A PlayStation announcement blog claims there will at least be some lighting tweaks, although we're not sure whether that's just for the PS5 version. Notably, the sheer mention of Aspyr has some unconvinced. It's true that the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection was a hit, but Saber is thought to have done a lot of heavy lifting.

This looks like the last chance cantina for Aspyr, as one more botched Star Wars release and you could have a (clone) war on your hands. Some have already turned their back on Star Wars: Bounty Hunter for this alone, but fair to say, we'll be ready to take flight on August 1.
