"Look how they massacred my boy." While we're looking ahead at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as one of 2023's biggest games, jeez, we've got to admit it looks like Cal Kestis has had a hard paper round.
We first met this plucky Jedi outcast as a fresh-faced escapee of Order 66 in Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but in the years since he escaped Darth Vader on the Stinger Mantis, time hasn't been kind to young Cal.
What Are Players Saying About Cal's New Look?
As we heat up for Jedi: Survivor's release in March 2023, Respawn has started its imperial march. When the official EA Star Wars Twitter shared a new look at grizzled Cal, fandom was divided by his latest appearance when the conversation spilt over onto Reddit.
It's clear we're putting the "survivor" in Jedi: Survivor, however, not everyone was convinced by the idea of a gritty sequel. "I was thinking he looks tired AF and needs a 5 day nap," said one. Someone else added, "Man he looks exhausted. This is gonna be intense."
There were supporters though. One said, "Bro looks grizzled and magnificent," while another concluded, "Well sh*t, if i thought he was fine as hell in the first game...goddam."
When someone asked, "Do you think Jedi ever shave with their lightsabers?" another replied, "Looks like he might have tried a few times."
What's The Storyline Of Jedi: Survivor?
Respawn is keeping details of what goes down in Jedi: Survivor under wraps, but much like The Empire Strikes Back was the darkest entry in George Lucas' original trilogy, the title seems to be going down that path.
The Reddit thread noticed that Cal has picked up a few more scars between games, but with five years having passed - and the Inquisitors presumably still on his tail after the death of Trilla Suduri - it makes sense he's been in a few scrapes.
EA's official summary doesn't give much away, saying Cal "continues to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy." The first trailer showed a mystery assailant and what could be a Cal clone in the bacta tank, so we could be taking the Force Unleashed route.
Either way, we can't wait to have Cal and BD back in our lives next year. Also, haven't you heard? Beards are still in.
