"These are not the theories you're looking for," as it looks like Respawn Entertainment could be dooming a fan-favourite Star Wars character to an early grave in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The sequel to 2019's sci-fi Souls-like is pitched as one of 2023's big games, and with Cal Kestis' return being delayed from its original March release, all eyes are on April 28.

Jedi: Survivor is sure to be another epic chapter in the galaxy's battle between Jedi and Sith, and while there are sure to be some casualties along the way, players think they've already clocked the game's big death ahead of time.

Is Cere Junda going to die in Jedi: Survivor?

As we prepare for Jedi: Survivor's release, the Respawn marketing machine is jumping into hyperspace. The latest story trailer showed off the return of fan-favourites Cere, Geez, and Merrin, but why do we think Cal's mentor will kick the bucket?

Much like how The Empire Strikes Back raised the stakes from A New Hope, this darker game will likely pack the punch of a major character departure. Worryingly, we only see Junda in a single shot of the story trailer - sporting her new look.

Over on Twitter, one fan theorised that the mysterious Jedi in the bacta tank will be the game's big bad - possibly killing Cere Junda to put Cal on a path of revenge. It's a well-thought-out idea, and to be honest, we're totally here for it.

The trailer confirms this mystery character is from the ancient High Republic era of the franchise, and questioning how they ended up crossing paths with Cal, someone speculated they were a villain that was frozen because the Jedi Order didn't know what to do with them.

What's next for Cere Junda?

We've seen Cere try to rebuild the Jedi Order from the shadows, and as we all know how that ends, we're rightly worried for her. Having trained Cal and restored her faith in the Jedi, Cere could be getting her own Obi-Wan Kenobi-inspired arc to help spur her apprentice forward.

Respawn's Star Wars games are in canon with the movies, and because Cal and Cere don't appear beyond this point in the timeline, it's potentially marked them for death. Then again, we saw the live-action Obi-Wan series save Moses Ingram's Reva safe passage to the franchise's future.

Cameron Monaghan has teased that death is just around the corner, telling StarWars.com, "This is going to be an emotional rollercoaster for people. I think that you'd have to be made of stone for it to not hit you in the heart." Thankfully, there isn't long to wait to find out who is getting Qui-Gon Jinned.
