Star Wars Outlaws players divided by post-release roadmap reveal

As Ubisoft reveals the post-release roadmap for Star Wars Outlaws and its paid DLCs, players are divided by what's to come and question whether it was cut from the main game just to make a profit.

The idea of Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft giving us a Star Wars game was originally met with scepticism, but by the looks of it, Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws is far more than an AC stealth game with a cosmic reskin. Unfortunately, old habits are dying hard over at Ubisoft as the dollar signs are ringing in its eyes.

Our own Outlaws preview raved about this being much more than Uncharted in space, and if it can stick the landing, it has the potential to sit alongside Respawn's Jedi games as a modern classic. For better or worse, Ubisoft has typically grand plans to extend Outlaws' lifespan - already showcasing a roadmap that's chunkier than Jabba the Hutt.

Star Wars Outlaws roadmap leaves fans divided

Ubisoft has just revealed its post-release roadmap for Outlaws, showing what's on offer in its two-story expansions. Although the two upcoming story packs are included in the Season Pass that comes with the pricey Gold or Ultimate editions and as part of Ubisoft+ Premium, the pass can also be bought separately.

The first will be called "Wild Card" and follows protagonist Kay Vess as she infiltrates a high-stakes Sabacc tournament and butts heads with the legendary Lando Calrissian. We know Lando appears in the base game, but it sounds like he'll have an expanded role in his own DLC. "Wild Card" will be released in Fall 2024.

Up next, Vess and her reputation aboard her ship (The Trailblazer) see her come into contact with the infamous pirate Hondo Ohnaka in "A Pirate's Fortune." Ohnaka is a feared Outer Rim pirate who first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 1 and has since popped up in everything from Rebels to the Galaxy's Edge theme park.

Both of these story expansions sound like they'll give players plenty of extra bang for their buck, however, others are adamant that this buck should've been included in Outlaws' price of admission. When one said, "I smell profit!!" another cheered, "I love Hondo so, so much."

One unhappy camper mused, "1. Sell incomplete game, 2. Publish roadmap, 3. Sell shit that should have been in the game in the first place, 4. Profit." Someone else added, "Didn't Horizon Zero Dawn also have a paid DLC story? Yeh it would be better in base game but no one overreacted to Horizon Zero Dawn extra DLC story."

Others said they'll be waiting until Outlaws eventually goes on sale. After one said, "Good to know, thanks! I guess it'll be at least spring of 2025 before I try to play this," someone concluded, "Lol they straight cut this from the main game to sell for extra profit 100%."

If you thought these comments were bad, the official r/StarWars subreddit was even more toxic. Unfortunately, this has become common since Kay Vess was first revealed. With Outlaws being branded 'woke' by the hard-to-please Star Wars community, we could've seen the latest drama coming a mile off.
