Starfield fans are saying the same thing after land vehicle leak

Starfield's land vehicles have apparently leaked in new footage, and if it's the real deal, players are less than impressed by the sci-fi explorer's latest addition.

Bethesda promised a lot with Starfield, and after the developer set the bar ridiculously high with its first new IP in 25 years, it's been playing catchup to try and turn the sci-fi explorer's reputation around. While the upcoming Shattered Space DLC hopes to do a lot of the heavy lifting, many still think Starfield is 'lost in space'.

Bethesda games are known for their sometimes rocky launches where bugs and glitches spoil the fun. Couple this with some janky animations, and you've got all the makings of a beloved Bethesda title, but some eight years after Fallout 4 suffered the same problems, it seems the schtick has worn a little thin with Starfield.

Starfield's land vehicles leak

We know ATVs are coming to Starfield, and even though the team is remaining tight-lipped on exactly when that is, new leaks have suggested they won't be the game-changing mechanic the title needs right now. X user @Mr_Rebs_ shared apparent Starfield footage, claiming to give us a first proper look at land vehicles.

The OP suggests a Shattered Space trailer and release date will be shown at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20. These leaks have quickly done the rounds on Reddit and 4chan, with some calling them out as fake. Mr_Rebs_ has since taken to X again, pointing out similarities between the footage and Bethesda's official tease of vehicles.

Starfield was notably called out for its 'barren' planets, with Bethesda clapping back against these complaints and reminding us that not every planet can be some densely-populated metropolis. Land vehicles are set to make traversing these planets a little more fun, but at the end of the day, a sparse wasteland is still a sparse wasteland - no matter how quickly you cross it.

Even though Shattered Space is tipped to give Starfield a resurgence on par with what the Phantom Liberty DLC did for Cyberpunk 2077, others remain unconvinced. Notably, the land vehicle leaks have done little to light a fire beneath a stagnating fandom.

One sceptic grumbled, "Yeah it looks fun but you're also just getting to nothing faster," while another said, "Oh yay. A vehicle to traverse more quickly on planets that are basically barren." A third added, "This looks really boring ngl. I wish Starfield wasn't as bad. Star Sh*tizen is miles better than this slop."

Someone else concluded, "It took them a year to add a land vehicle when a fan could've modded one into the game within 2 hours. AAA games ladies and gentleman," reminding us that modders beat Bethesda to the punch and have been adding vehicles and mechs for months.

It wasn't long ago that we heard land vehicles would soon be racing into view, with Gamescom sounding like the perfect time to announce their release as part of Shattered Space. Whether Bethesda can turn things around remains to be seen, but by the looks of it, it'll take more than ATVs to get Starfield's thrusters firing again.
