It's nearly time to take flight and reach for the stars, as Bethesada's Starfield is fuelling up in the cargo bay. The sci-fi favourite is poised to be one of the year's biggest games, and going against Spider-Man 2 as a PlayStation exclusive, Starfield is flying the green flag for Xbox.
Following the disappointment of Redfall, there's a lot riding on Starfield to prove Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media was worth it. Still, as Bethesda's first original IP in 25 years, there's plenty of potential. As we gear up to play Starfield as a day-one release, some have found a way to get it cheap.
Xbox players have a cunning plan for Starfield
Starfield is getting a day-one Game Pass, meaning you can nab the AAA game without stumping up the $70/£70 base cost. The problem is, if you stop paying for Game Pass, you lose access to Starfield. That doesn't matter with short games that you can rattle through quickly, but Starfield is much bigger.
Boasting 1,000 planets, it's clear Starfield isn't the kind of title you'll be able to casually polish off in a weekend. Over on Reddit, players have a cunning plan to exploit a potential loophole, play Starfield as soon as it releases, and still grab a bargain.
After playing on Game Pass, bargain-hunting gamers plan on cancelling their subscription and getting a cut-price Starfield when it inevitably goes on sale. One player wrote, "Gamepass, then purchase Game of the Year edition (edit: on sale) when DLC is done in a few years."
Another added, "This. No point spending $100 to get it 6 days early when I can get it for free. By the time DLC comes out the price will have dropped by half surely," and a third said, "This is the way." From the comments, it's clear this is a strategy that a lot of you are planning.
Does Starfield have a DLC?
With so much going into Starfield, Bethesda has a grand plan to keep content coming for years. There's speculation that one of its DLCs might contain mechs, while the more expensive Premium and Constellation Editions are already confirmed to include the Shattered Space story expansion...whenever it releases.
In an interview with IGN, Howard promised this is just the start of our space exploration, with "a lot" of add-on content. He explained, "Our plan is to do things of varying sizes, and we've done a lot of that in our previous games, so it's something that we really like doing, our fans like."
Games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have kept the DLCs coming, while Howard has previously teased a roadmap that will ensure fans are playing Starfield for the next 10 years. Considering it's set to be the biggest Bethesda game ever, we've always expected something colossal.
