Stellar Blade’s rumoured PC port sounds like a modding minefield

With continued rumours that Shift Up's Stellar Blade is coming to PC, players are already bracing themselves for the NSFW mods that will surely come with the port.

Proving that gaming is still appealing largely to horny broskis, Shift Up's Stellar Blade largely grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons. Then again, with its Game Director saying there was a specific focus on protagonist Eve's posterior, it seems it knew exactly what demographic it was going for.

Shift Up's action-adventure game is one of PlayStation's big exclusives in 2024, and as the inevitable launch boost turns into a lull, there are questions about where it goes next. The team has given us a packed roadmap that includes photo mode, new outfits for Eve, and hints of a DLC alongside potential sequels beyond 2024.

Get ready for the Stellar Blade mods

On Reddit, fans have noticed that the Shift Up recruitment page is currently looking for a Combat Designer who has "PC skills design and data work" experience. While it's possible this could be for a different IP, the mention of "anyone who wants to create battles for domestically developed AAA console action games" points to Stellar Blade.

Earlier this year, Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-Tae wouldn't comment on a potential Stellar Blade PC port due to a "contractual relationship" with Sony, however, it makes sense. Sony has slowly been giving us PlayStation exclusives like God of War and The Last of Us on PC - opening the doors to a whole new fandom.

A Stellar Blade PC port would undoubtedly lead to a modding community, so we can only imagine the controversy it'll cause. Stellar Blade inadvertently triggered a massive debate on the depiction of women in video games, with critics calling out its jiggle physics and emphasis on a provocative nature during marketing.

Still, the game soared to become one of the highest-rated PlayStation exclusives and topped sales charts in April. A PC port was always likely, but with it, modding will surely only make these complaints worse. One fan said, "Time to invest in NexusMods."

Another added, "I'm wondering how fast the modding community for this game will be once it releases for PC," and a third joked that the sex gaming site LoversLab will go down due to all the traffic. A Change.Org petition called 'Free Stellar Blade' currently has over 96K signatures, asking for an uncensored version of the game.

We've already seen Eve try out a series of raunchier Stellar Blade outfits, and once the modders get hold of it on PC, we dread to think what there will be. If it's anything like Final Fantasy or Resident Evil, we don't imagine Eve will be wearing clothes for too long.
