Stumble Guys has taken the mobile market by storm in the last year or so, amassing over 50 million players every single month. Now, this arcade platformer is expanding its horizons to the Xbox platform as it finds a whole new audience on console.
What is Stumble Guys?
Developed by Scopely, the concept is particularly familiar from games like Fall Guys which arguably popularised the party knockout genre back in 2020. Epic Games quickly snapped up Mediatonic, the team behind Fall Guys, but popularity for that game started to wane as regular seasonal content slowed to a crawl.
Stumble Guys doesn’t seem to have that problem. Accelerated by the massive mobile market and vast numbers of players that have flocked to it, Scopely describes its game as player-driven, constantly providing updated content with brand collaborations that would make any live service game weak at the knees.
Even just loading up the game for the first time, we can see levels developed in collaboration with Hot Wheels, Mr Beast, Monopoly, Nerf, and even Pac-Man. Moreover, many of those gameplay assets are included in the publicly available level builder, so more community-built levels can contribute to the massive amount of content on offer here.
The road to a full console launch
In a preview event for Stumble Guys arriving on Xbox, a spokesperson for Scopely told GGRecon that a lot of its audience was keen to see the game come to console so they could play with their mates. The game works perfectly on mobile devices, and can even be run in a desktop web browser. However, we all know players who would much rather sit at a dedicated console to play games, and that’s the market Scopely is targeting here.
“With our release on Xbox, we’re thrilled to provide yet another platform for our awesome community to experience the chaotic fun of ‘Stumble Guys’ - wherever, however, whenever and with whoever they choose,” SVP of Product and Game Director at Scopely said in a press release.
Crossprogression also launches this week, so you can continue using all of your earned skins across multiple platforms. Stumble Guys doesn’t currently support cross-play, but it’s a feature that’s planned to arrive soon - as is split-screen multiplayer.
The Stumble Workshop also isn’t present in the Xbox build of Stumble Guys just yet, but we’re told it’s also planned to join the assortment of features later down the line.
The console journey doesn’t stop here, as Scopely told us that a release on PlayStation is planned in the coming year. While it couldn’t give a specific date, it did say that it’s aiming for sooner rather than later. Scopely didn’t have anything to share on whether a Nintendo Switch port is currently in the works.
