T1's illustrious esports history has the organisation poised to be one of the better teams heading into the birthing of the VALORANT Champions Tour. However, the inaugural season ended with a whim, and a rebuilding project was enrolled during the offseason. Now, with the addition of one of the most experienced FPS players available, T1's journey in the VCT was supposed to be the start of bigger things to come. Supposed to be.

Having been bumped down to the lower bracket, T1 has now been eliminated from the first VCT 2022: NA Stage One Open Qualifiers, after Riot Games found the organisation's coach used "unauthorised communication" during the match.

T1 Accused of cheating mid-series by TSM Players on Social media

During the official VALORANT Champions Tour qualifier between T1 and TSM, the wider community was sent into a frenzy, as a social media war erupted. Taking to Twitter, during a technical pause in the match, TSM's Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik and Aleko "Aleko" Gabuniya claimed that they were playing "6v5", accusing the T1 coach of typing in the chat.

Subroza said, "I'm playing [versus] a team that has their coach typing and probably talking to them mid-game gg 6v5," before adding, "I honestly wouldn't have complained about it, but this kid typed ROZA ult".

With the allegations against T1, the Nerd Street Gamers' stream (where the match was being broadcast) was subsequently muted, and a battle of the words continued online.

Originally, Subroza claimed "it's okay guys! they got a warning!!!!!", whilst T1's Joshua "Steel" Nissan posted a picture of the final score going in their favour.

Riot Games Disqualify T1 from VCT Stage 1 Open Qualifiers

However, Riot Games soon released an official statement, which seemingly confirmed the allegations - as T1 was disqualified from the event due to a coach using "unauthorised communication".

The statement read, "T1 will forfeit their January 29th match against TSM in the North American VALORANT Champions Tour Open Qualifier 1 due to violating rules regarding unauthorised communication during a match.

"Any communication between non-players and players during a match is prohibited outside of designated Tactical and Technical Pauses. All players are expected to abide by the rules of fair play that they agree to uphold prior to participating in this tournament."

Despite the dispute, other professional players joked that TSM's best performance "was on Twitter", as they were dumped from the qualifiers in the next round.

Both squads will get another chance to qualify through the second round of Open Qualifiers, as the likes of Version1 and NRG already popped their names on the Challengers 1 list.
