If there are two things the Zelda games do well, it's crafting challenging dungeons and turning out absolute bangers in the song department. From the iconic main theme to "Epona's Song," the fantasy favourite has delivered tune after tune.
We're on the cusp of Nintendo releasing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and with it, we're expecting another chart-topping soundtrack. Now, there's the surprise drop of Tears' theme song, which already sounds like another icon for the ages.
What is the Tears of the Kingdom theme song?
As pointed out by Kotaku, Twitch streamer Actual Aero has unearthed the Tears of the Kingdom main song embedded in the title's official site in Japan. Like pulling the Master Sword from the stone, Aero extracted the song and shared it on Twitter.
Coming in at just under two minutes, it's a rousing number that we can imagine charging across the plains of Hyrule to while slicing Bokoblins. There are melodic lows and energetic highs, but we'll have to wait and see whether it can stand up to the likes of the main theme or Wind Waker's "Dragon Roost Island."
One fan cheered, "They knew BotW’s OST was too ambient so they decided to unleash the beast for Tears of the Kingdom," while another added, "Really liking the eastern influence on the instrumentation. Zelda's music never misses." A third simply concluded, "Theme song of the year, peeps!"
What do we know about Tears of the Kingdom?
Nintendo has now dropped its final trailer for Tears of the Kingdom, which had us all thirsting over a rehydrated Ganondorf. Sadly, it seemingly debunked the idea that we'll get a playable Zelda. From what we've seen, everything looks (and sounds) like a souped-up Breath of the Wild.
Crafting is a major part of the sequel, with Nintendo proving you can fuse literally anything to anything. You can also take to the skies with a series of floating islands, while we're hoping the classic formula of Zelda dungeons will return.
It remains to be seen whether the Tears of the Kingdom theme will just play on the main menu or accompany us around Hyrule, but we hope it's the latter. There's no title for the theme so far, but either way, crank up the volume and listen for yourselves because we know you'll love it.
