Since the advent of the home console, gaming has been evolving at an exponential rate, and entertainment has never been the same. From the Atari 2600 all the way up to the newest generation of consoles, home gaming is an ever-evolving beast, with each new iteration of the medium innovating and creating new home experiences.

But, of course, some have sold better than others, with the 2000s proving that video games don't have to be just for kids and nerds. The most popular gaming brand of all time has now been revealed - and it might surprise you.

PlayStation Is The Highest Selling Home Console Brand Ever

The Best-Selling Home Console Has Been Revealed

The PlayStation is currently the best-selling home console brand ever according to the Guinness World Records.

The original PlayStation console sold a massive 102.5 million units, followed by a huge step up with the PlayStation 2 selling 155 million units. The PS3 wasn't quite as successful but still made serious bank with 87.4 million consoles sold, and the PS4 picked it up again with 116.6 million units shifted.

The PS5 has so far only sold 13.4 million units according to a report from Sony, which is likely a result of the console's serious stock issues, but it still contributes to the sales of the PlayStation. That's a lot of money.

But, it'll likely come as a shock to Nintendo fans. Surely, we would've expected the House that Mario built to be in here somewhere?

Where Is Nintendo In All Of This?

This award has gone to PlayStation out of everyone in the business because of the sheer sum of popular consoles as a part of the PlayStation lineage - which is why Nintendo didn't edge it out.

Nintendo's family of DS consoles tail the sales of the PlayStation 2's sales alone, coming in at 154.02 sales. Plus, even though the Nintendo Wii was such a massive part of home gaming when it launched, it still sold less than the Playstation with 101.63 million units sold.

It's a huge achievement for Sony, and a testament to the consistent quality of their consoles. Who knows, if stock problems lift, the PS5 could catch up yet.
