When it comes to the most-anticipated video game of all time, Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently ruling the roost. Once it releases in 2025, Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls 6 is sure to take its place. It's 13 years since Skyrim released, and while Bethesda seems determined to keep releasing new versions, a sequel is on the way.
Although rumours had been circulating long before, Todd Howard officially announced The Elder Scrolls 6 at E3 2018 and blew up the internet. Aside from the occasional reminder that things are chugging along, it's six years later and feels like we're no closer to having the game in our hands.
Bethesda employee potentially reveals The Elder Scrolls 6 setting
As with all these things, one of the big reveals is where The Elder Scrolls 6 will be set. Tamriel is a big ol' place, and after Skyrim took place in a mountainous region of the same name, it looks like TES6 could be setting its sights on a new locale that's familiar to die-hard fans of the franchise.
Reddit user r/nitsuaztnarf shared screenshots from what's apparently the Pinterest of an unnamed Bethesda employee. The account was reportedly locked shortly after this, suggesting there could be more to it. Interestingly, the Pinterest account was filled with nods to the likes of Denis Villeneuve's Dune movies.
Dune takes place on the desert planet of Arrakis, and while the employee could just be sharing their love of the sci-fi epic, others have looked at the rest of the desert-themed pins. Other notable pins include a nod to the outfit worn by Ardeth Bay's Oded Fehr in The Mummy. With all these clues, they've pinpointed Hammerfell as a potential setting.
We previously heard about Hammerfell as a possible setting for The Elder Scrolls 6, and with it bordering Skyrim to the West, it makes plenty of sense. Hammerfell is the home of the Redguard and most famously appears in The Elder Scrolls Online. We've longed to be able to fully explore the Alik'r Desert, and it could soon be a reality.
Loving the idea of Hammerfell for The Elder Scrolls 6, one fan cheered, "Christ I hope so. Hammerfell would be so f**king cool." Another noted the underwater pins and added, "Calling it now, Hammerfell will have an Australia vibe with a Great Barrier Reef. Also calling a beautiful Somali beach style."
Much like the not-so-surprising reveal that GTA 6 would be heading to Vice City, Hammerfell has been spoken about so much, that we'd be more shocked to learn The Elder Scrolls 6 won't be set there. Even as Bethesda winds down work on Starfield and powers ahead with TES6, we wouldn't expect a trailer anytime soon.
