As the latest first-person shooter, THE FINALS has all the makings of the next big thing, and yet, it's not quite standing up against the titans. Some video game occurrences feel like crimes against nature - brilliant games get lost to time, and poor examples end up as the figureheads of the artistic medium.
We often don't get what we want, and the same feeling extends to THE FINALS, a tactical shooter game with whimsy and remarkable design coming out the wazoo. As THE FINALS seems to stay firmly in its lane (not for lack of trying), fans are wondering when the rest of the world will catch on.
THE FINALS fans wonder why it isn't massive
THE FINALS players have been posting on Reddit, wondering why the objective-based shooter isn't a much bigger deal than it is right now. The game has clearly proven itself to stand up against the gameplay demands of fans of titles like Counter-Strike and VALORANT - so where's the love?
Especially in the face of Call of Duty and Fortnite standing at the very top of the gaming world for so long, players were supposedly desperate for a competitor to take over. "I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I'm shocked this game hasn't achieved the same consistent popularity of the games mentioned," says user Jett_Wave.
"I really want to see this game take off, because all of the competition doesn't stack up. All the most popular shooters seem to have going for them in comparison is a big dedicated fanbase."
The post is an extensive one, as it rattles through every fan complaint in an attempt to "debunk" them. While it isn't likely to change anyone's mind as to why THE FINALS hasn't taken off, it's telling that the game isn't doing an awful lot that's necessarily wrong.
Fans respond to THE FINALS' popularity questions
It seems that the wider fanbase certainly agrees with the sentiment that THE FINALS deserves better than it's getting, as they've taken to the comments to profess their love for the shooter.
"Everyone complains about apex and they just won’t hop off it’s really confusing to me. A lot of the streamers feel burnt out yet they still play it for some reason," reads one comment. "THE FINALS really is a breath of fresh air."
"Let's just hope it doesn't end like Titanfall 2," says another. "A beautiful diamond that was buried by the pile of rubble that is it's competitors." THE FINALS certainly deserves better than what players are fearing it could become - and we're just going to have to cross out fingers that the game can pull through the struggle it's in now.
