NRG Rocket League Team Rename To 'The General NRG'

Following a partnership with The General Insurance, NRG have renamed their Rocket League team.

NRG Esports has officially renamed its Rocket League team to 'The General NRG' following a partnership with The General Insurance company.

The partnership, which is the first-ever naming rights deal in North American Rocket League, was heavily influenced by basketball pioneer and multimillionaire Shaquille O'Neal, being co-owner of NRG and a long-time ambassador to The General.

To further expand on the partnership, NRG's own Twitch broadcast of The Grid will be presented by The General, with the weekly tournament expected to return in the next season.

The side that boasts a full trio of World Champions, two of which won their trophy at NRG back in Season 8, will be issued with The General NRG branded gear including new jerseys to commemorate the partnership. The flashy verdant kit will be sported by the squad in the North American Spring Series Major and the following RLCS X Championships that replaced the world series.

Discussing the collaboration, Shaquille O’Neal said: “The explosion of the esports industry has been really exciting, and it’s just getting started. Both The General and NRG connect with similar audiences, so a partnership here is a natural fit. I can’t wait to watch it come to life.”

“We're excited that they will be a part of our journey towards another World Championship title."

NRG, now The General NRG, sit firmly poised at the top of the North America RLCS X standings, having won the Winter Split Major and the Fall Split Regional 3. The acquisition of Canadian superstar Mariano "SquishyMuffinz" Arruda alongside long-time players Garrett "GarrettG" Gordon, and Justin "jstn." Morales has seen them move from strength to strength in recent events, almost securing a spot at the World Championships before the final split even gets underway. 

With hope, the Rocket League roster will be able to sport their new look on the world stage, should the pandemic restrictions allow.
