Feeling like its over before it's even begun, we could be about to say goodbye to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. It seems like only yesterday we were exploring Hisui in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but before long, we were heading over to Paldea at breakneck speed. Now, it's time to look to the future of the Pokeverse.

Even if we're getting ready to sunset Scarlet & Violet, Gen IX is set to go out in style with the upcoming The Indigo Disk DLC. We already enjoyed the Japanese-inspired The Teal Mask, and now, The Indigo Disk is pitching itself as an even grander affair.

The Indigo Disk lets you play as your Pokemon

There are new mechanics on the way to The Indigo Disk, with the latest trailer unveiling The Synchro Machine. Not quite some twisted mind control machine, The Synchro Machine lets you jump into your buddy Pokemon for a whole new way to play.

The Indigo Disk takes us back to the Blueberry Academy and reunites us with The Teal Mask's Carmine and Kieran. The DLC is largely set in Black & White's Unova, but you'll get to see things from a different vantage point. At a certain point in The Indigo Disk, players can "see the world through the eyes of their Pokemon."

In the trailer, a new NPC called Synclaire asks if you want to take part in a experiment. We then see a group of trainers close their eyes and jump into the bodies of their 'mon. We've been able to play as Pokemon in the Mystery Dungeon games, and with calls for a return to the spin-off still up in the air, could this be a tease?

The details are still unclear, but being able to hop into your buddy Pokemon sounds like a unique mechanic that proves The Indigo Disk is worth a go. Whether The Synchro Machine will appear in the main games or future Pokemon titles remains to be seen, but at least we know Game Freak isn't afraid to innovate.

What else is coming to The Indigo Disk?

The Indigo Disk Legendary Pokemon

There's a who's who of returning faces, with every starter Pokemon getting ready for battle. In terms of newcomers, we're promised trouble from a 'new' Elite Four, who are based out of an underwater lair. If you didn't already have enough to do, there are new Blueberry Quests (BBQs) to undertake.

The Legendary Pokemon roster is set to bloom. After completing The Indigo Disk's main quest, you're encouraged to meet the mysterious Snacksworth at Blueberry Academy. Completing BBQs will gift you certain snacks that help you encounter Legendaries back in Paldea.

Finally, we'll be able to fly when riding Koraidon or Moraidon. With The Indigo Disk coming out on December 14, this looks like a Christmas that's saved the best until last when it comes to Scarlet & Violet. Now that's done, it's time to look ahead at the inevitable Gen X and another crop of those adorable Pocket Monsters.
