Warning: spoilers for The Last of Us Episode 4 ahead

The credits have only just rolled on Episode 4 of HBO's The Last of Us, but in a rare treat, we have two episodes of those mushroom monsters in the same week.

While we're used to tuning in on a Sunday or Monday (depending on where in the world you live), HBO has a surprise for you and is dropping Episode 5 early. If you can't want to find out what happens to Ellie and Joel following that cliffhanger, you're in luck.

When Will The Last Of Us Episode 5 Air?

Due to Super Bowl LVII being something of a big deal as the biggest sporting event in the world, it comes as no surprise that HBO is shifting its schedules around to make room for the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Kansas City Chief.

As last year's Super Bowl was watched by 99.2 million people, even The Last of Us averaging 21 million viewers for the first two episodes would see it obliterated by the sporting extravaganza.

Posting on Twitter, HBO shared the trailer for Episode 5 - confirming it'll air on Friday, February 10. The episode will still be shown on Sunday night, but will be available via HBO Max and On Demand from Friday.

On Friday, The Last of Us Episode 5 will still be in the usual time slot of 6pm PT/9pm ET. Those in the UK will have to get up at 2am on Saturday morning.

Following this, the final four will return to their usual Sunday slot. This will take us through to Episode 9 as the season finale on March 12.

What Happens In The Last Of Us Episode 5?

In the trailer, we see what happens next for Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) after they're held up at gunpoint by Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Nadji Jeter) at the end of Episode 4.

Henry and Sam are two characters pulled directly from the video game, although it's clear their story will be different here. The brothers are under the watchful eye of Melanie Lynskey's Kathleen, who is a brand-new creation for the series.

Henry is apparently responsible for the death of Kathleen's brother, while she seems to be the leader of the rebels who've overthrown FEDRA in Kansas City. While Kathleen is out for revenge, it's clear the Infected will get in the way of her mission.

The trailer ends with a shot of a lumbering Bloater, which we guess was that ominous rumbling that Kathleen and Perry (Jeffrey Pierce) heard under the floor.

With The Last of Us taking some major swings away from the source material, we'll have to wait and see what goes down when Episode 5 airs.
