The Last Of Us Season 2 Fans Swoon Over Jesse

We always suspected HBO would be celebrating this year's Outbreak Day with something special, and while we still don't have a release date for The Last of Us Season 2, a full trailer is the next best thing. The hit series is coming back in 'early' 2025, and after a first proper look at what's to come, it feels like it's going to be a long wait.

Adapting Naughty Dog's beloved 2013 game into The Last of Us Season 1 was no mean feat for Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, but given the divisive nature of 2020's The Last of Us Part II and the record-breaking success of the first season, the pressure is on.

The Last of Us fans lose it over 'jacked' Jesse

The first full trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 was a who's who of familiar faces and newcomers alike. Alongside the returning Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Joel, they're also rejoined by Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley as Tommy and Maria. However, it's the new castings that have us all talking.

Seemingly confirming earlier theories that Catherine O'Hara is playing some sort of apocalyptic therapist, there's also Jeffrey Wright reprising his role from the game as Isaac. We get a proper look at Isabela Merced as Ellie's love interest, Dina, while everyone is talking about Kaitlyn Dever's casting as the antagonistic Abby Anderson.

Away from the major players, let's give a shout-out to Young Mazino's role as Jesse. Known for his breakout role as Paul Yo on Netflix's Beef, Mazino has joined The Last of Us as the underrated Jesse. Jesse is a close friend of Ellie and leader of the Jackson community patrols, and while we won't ruin his story arc, we're hoping to see plenty of him in Season 2.

Although Jesse appeared in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it capacity in The Last of Us Season 2 trailer, the internet has exploded with love for this 'jacked' take on the character. It looks like the casting team has nailed the look of Jesse from the games, albeit a swole version because Mazino has definitely been hitting the gym.

One fan swooned, "WTF, bro, so hot! 🤣🤣 But a bit too muscular compared to the game character," while another joked, "It’s so nice when the apocalypse has gyms and protein powder." A third said, "Jesses f**kin jacked, goddamn," and someone concluded, "Oh god, Smash 🥲."

If only everyone got the same treatment. It's no secret that Ramsey has faced backlash for their look as Ellie, especially with Season 2 supposedly having a five-year time jump. The same has been said for Dever, with some unconvinced she can pull off the 'buff' Abby.

Thankfully, the relatively minor complaints that someone doesn't look 'right' for a part should be swept under the rug when we tune in for another stellar season and one of the best video game adaptations of all time. If only there were more than seven episodes.
