Things are finally 'clicking' into place for The Last of Us Season 2. HBO's live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog's video game was one of 2023's biggest TV shows, and up there with network greats like The Sopranos, True Detective, and Game of Thrones, was another certified banger.

While we originally hoped The Last of Us Season 2 would be with us this year, HBO later confirmed our worst fears that the next run of episodes has been pushed to 2025. Hype has only continued to build with new castings and potential plans for four seasons, but now, we've finally got a look at Season 2.

The Last of Us Season 2 trailer reveals Abby

HBO has given us a quick peek at Season 2, with it packing a lot into its 22 seconds. We see Joel (Pedro Pascal) dealing with the aftermath of his lies that saved Ellie (Bella Ramsey) but potentially doomed the human race when he massacred the Fireflies.

The trailer features Joel speaking to Catherine O'Hara's mystery character, with the Beetlejuice star potentially being some kind of therapist. There's also newcomer Isabela Merced as Ellie's girlfriend, Dina, as well as Jeffrey Wright reprising his role as WLF leader, Isaac.

Easily the biggest reveal of the trailer is the appearance of Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever. In this blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, we see Dever's Abby crawling through the snow, looking like a dead ringer for her video game counterpart. The casting of Abby was one of Season 2's big coups, especially as she's the main antagonist in the second game.

Given what we've seen in the trailer, it doesn't look like we'll get too far into the events of 2020's The Last of Us Part II, suggesting Abby might only appear in a minor capacity. Still, there's plenty of action, with Ellie involved in a tense subway scene from the games and Tommy (Gabriel Luna) defending Jackson with guns.

While it's frustrating that we'll have to wait until next year for the abridged The Last of Us Season 2, the trailer has only hyped us further. As Season 1 was a faithful adaption of the first game but put its own spin on the source material, we're excited to see what showrunner Craig Mazin can do with the meatier Part II.
