The OG Fortnite map could be back for its own game mode

There's never been a playerbase like Fortnite is enjoying right now. The addition of brand-new game modes like Fortnite Festival and LEGO Fortnite has done it wonders, but the first hint that the game hadn't yet reached its peak came with the beloved Fortnite OG mini-season.

For one short month, Fortnite's map and mechanics returned to the way it once was, with the game breaking its own records in the process. But, it's gone now. Or at least, it's gone for now because new rumours indicate that Fortnite's OG map could be coming back.

Leakers claim that an OG Fortnite mode could be on the way

The mode that brought seemingly endless players back to Fortnite looks like it could finally be making itself a recurring staple, as leakers claim that the mini-season that took players back a few years could be coming to Fortnite as a standard mode.

Egyptian_Leaker has posted on Twitter and said that a playlist tag titled "Athena.Playlist.Rufus" was added to Fortnite during Fortnite OG.This apparently indicates that this could mean a playlist featuring the OG map will reappear in the game.

There's no word yet on what the keywords here actually mean, but the leaker seems adamant that the mode could be on the way - so we're just going to have to wait and see if anything comes of it.

Fortnite OG was huge for the game

The key art for Fortnite's OG season.

There's little doubt that the return of Fortnite OG would be a huge boost to Fortnite fandom, as when the season broke records, it did so with a whopping 44.7 million players on its biggest day. Fortnite has since surpassed this, but the averages of the game could see a huge boost thanks to the return of the OG map.

It'd frankly be a little stupid for Fortnite not to bring the OG map back as its own mode, and we'd be shocked if this claim by the leaker didn't come to be true to some capacity. Much like the implication of Zero Build as more than just an LTM, it makes sense. Go on Fortnite, don't be daft.
