The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been through it. The revamp of the 2003 game seems to have been in the works for some time now, and the cult classic's comeback has been long-requested for even longer before that.
For those on the outside, it might seem like a bizarre choice of game to take up for a full remake, but those that know, know, and the adventure has a lot of hype from its dedicated circle. But it has just hit another, pretty substantial, roadblock.
Make sure to read more recent news about the doomed Prince of Persia remake that is being rebooted.
The Prince Of Persia remake has changed studios
Seemingly pretty late into the game's development, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has changed hands from developer to developer. In a statement published yesterday from the PrinceOfPersia Twitter account, it was revealed that the production of the game would now be led by Ubisoft Montreal.
This is a move that makes sense, given the company's past with the series, but equally, it's got a lot of fans nervous about how much work will be transferred from one studio to another.
"This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it's ready," reads the announcement.
What does this mean for the Sands of Time remake?
Gamers are rightfully concerned about what this means for the remake, and chances are, this could seriously impact both the final quality and release date. It's likely the move has spurred a change in the projected release date for the game - something that hadn't yet been revealed to the public
The transition from company to company might also mean the remake's direction will be different too. Naturally, as a game remake, it at least has something to go off - but new changes could be added after the transfer. Even if you're nervous, it's hard to judge what this means, as we'll likely never know what came from the first two development teams. We'll have to wait and see what's going on with Prince of Persia - but we may be waiting a while.
