4Chan has blessed the world with yet another seemingly random leak as the source code, and much more, for a cancelled version of Rayman 4 has been released online.
A Cancelled Rayman 4 Game Has Leaked Online
Back in the day, Rayman was one of Ubisoft's biggest properties, but with the release of 2006's Rayman Raving Rabbids, that all ended. The Rabbids quickly took over the titular character in popularity. Due to this, it's been nearly ten years since the last Rayman game, but fans of the franchise can rejoice somewhat, as Rayman 4 has leaked online, and there's a lot to learn from this cancelled game.
According to ResetEra, the leak originates from 4Chan. Since it was dropped, fans of the franchise have been rooting through the source code and other files to learn more. A user on Twitter called RibShark has also been collecting some of the leaks in a thread, revealing the existence of riding mechanics, Rayman's girlfriend (who hasn't been shown in any other game), and a parody level called Sphincter Cell.
It seems development did make a fair bit of progress, as there are a number of complete and semi-complete level concepts, with one even taking part inside a giant mechanical Rabbid that you attempt to blow up, and a test level filled with balls. For fans of the franchise, it's a Christmas miracle, and their excitement may show Ubisoft that Rayman still has some potential.
What's The Future For Rayman?
It seems that Rayman games are dead for the foreseeable future, and the Rabbids have become far more notable since their introduction, with them even getting a second Mario + Rabbids game this year.
It's not all gloom though, as a Rayman animated series was announced to be in the works back in 2019, and this could suggest that Ubisoft still plan to utilise the character rather than leave him behind. There have been weirder comebacks in gaming, so don't count out the series, but modern Ubisoft has struggled with maintaining its franchises in recent years. Unless some big change occurs over there, we don't expect it to be different in the future.
