The Sims has always been something of a champion for diversity in the gaming industry, and that was even before it started making an effort.
The God-simulator has always had a home in the LGBTQ+ community, allowing players to be whoever they want, look however they want, and woohoo whoever they want. It's basically the opportunity for players to build their perfect lives from the ground up.
EA has taken strides in making The Sims as inclusive as it was once implied to be, introducing wealths of pronoun options and recent sexuality banners helping improve the experience for many. And now, The Sims 4 has taken an impressive leap toward representing everyone.
The Sims 4 Adds Binders, Top Surgery Scars, And Hearing Aids
The latest update for The Sims 4 has added a series of new wearables that can be equipped in Create a Sim - helping to represent more people creating themselves in-game.
These changes are headlined by new medical wearables, including hearing aids and glucose monitors, as well as top surgery scars and binders. The hearing aids come in 15 different colours for all Sims of toddler age and older, while glucose monitors can be added to your Sim's arm or lower abdomen.
Asf for transgender representation, the update reads, "Under the Body category, all players can find a Body Scars category with an option for Teen and older male Sims (masculine or feminine frame) to add a top surgery scar to their Sims."
It's a great series of additions that hammers home Maxis' commitment to making sure The Sims represents everyone who could come to it. But that's not all the update has brought.
What Else Is In The Sims 4's New Update?
The official Sims site has revealed everything else coming to The Sims 4 in its new update, and it's coming with some pretty great quality-of-life changes.
The title has introduced light switches to its build mode, adjustable UI placement on PlayStation, cursor scaling, and more. The entire list can be seen in the blog post, and it's one definitely worth scanning through if you're a dedicated Simmer.
Even though The Sims has been criticised for burying diversity content behind paywalls, there's still a lot of care for its players. These new additions to The Sims 4 really prove it.
The Sims has always been for those who want to imagine who they could become or want a realistic portrayal of how they are in real life. This update is a wonderful way to help to make that a reality.
