Maxis is here to prove there's plenty more life left in The Sims 4, as the simulation series unveils a content-stuffed roadmap that'll take us through to the end of 2024. While we're rightly asking what's going on with Project Rene/The Sims 5, a little sleight of hand from the occult is trying to keep us distracted.
Since its debut in 2014, The Sims 4 has kept us busy with over 50 DLCs - and earned a pretty penny from it. Ranging from dude ranches to wedding planners, we've even had a Star Wars-themed expansion to get you splashing those Simoleons. Even though some think the end is nigh, Maxis is here to prove it's got plenty more tricks up its sleeves
Life and Death expansion is The Sims 4's next big DLC
Although the next expansion was leaked ahead of time, The Sims 4 has officially revealed its "Life and Death" expansion. Timed for Halloween, Life and Death arrives on October 31 and (as the name suggests) will take us beyond this mortal realm.
There's not much in the way of what we can expect, but before the main release of content, there's an impressive roadmap that includes the following:
- The Storybook Nursery Kit (September 19)
- The Artist Studio Kit (September 19)
- The Reaper's Rewards Event (September 24)
- A first look at Life and Death (October 3)
- Life and Death expansion pack (October 31)
Electronic Arts and Maxis delivered a suitably spooky teaser video with tarot cards, the promise of an October 3 look at Life and Death, and cryptically referred to this as "the "Season of To Be Continued." Running from September until December, this means it'll take us through until 2025 - suggesting that Project Rene is still a way off.
Following the cutesy Lovestruck expansion that launched on July 25, it'll be something different as we embrace our darker side this spooky season. That's all well and good, but what about fairy fans? Up there with horses, fairies are one of The Sims 4's most-requested features. We've already added horses, but sadly, fairies aren't spreading their wings...yet.
The Sims modding community has plenty of options for fairy fans, but for whatever reasons, official support for those winged creatures has yet to appear. In response to Life and Death's reveal, fairies were on everyone's lips.
One disgruntled gamer wrote, "Another season passes. They still haven’t added fairies to the sims 4. it’s all i want," while another added, "Who at EA do I need to screw to get a fairies expansion pack?! Seriously so many people asked for fairies and you guys ignore them!" A third concluded, "No Sims 4 fairies….I'm gonna get evil."
While it's unclear exactly what Life and Death has in store, the likes of funerals, zombies, and ghosts seem the most likely. We previously had fairies in The Sims 3, so we're not sure why Maxis is holding out on us this time around. Oh well, at least there's a chance we'll get a Grim Reaper career path when the Life and Death expansion releases on October 31.
