The Witcher 3's New-Gen Remaster Is Facing A Massive Delay

The Witcher 3's new-gen update has run into some trouble, and now we have no idea when it'll launch.

The Witcher 3 is pretty close to securing a total timelessness, much like Skyrim has, and after proving itself as one of the best fantasy games going, it's pretty fair.

The game has been gearing up to enter the new generation of consoles for some time now, and as the games' Netflix series continues to soar, players are more than ready to revisit The Witcher 3 and get their Geralt fix.

But sadly, they might be waiting a little longer than hoped.

The Witcher 3's New-Gen Update Has Stalled Indefinitely

Sadly, CD PROJEKT RED has confirmed that they've had to step away from adapting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.

The update was planned to come before the year's end, but it looks like the team are expecting it to be a much bigger job than hoped, and that they're reconsidering the creation of the update.

In the short update posted to Twitter, the official The Witcher Twitter has said "We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt," taking the job back from Saber Interactive for unknown reasons. "We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice."

So, When's New-Gen The Witcher Coming?

It's hard to tell exactly when the update could come now, as we didn't know how much work that Saber Interactive had done. And if CD PROJEKT RED are taking the work back, then it might mean that they're starting over as a result of being unhappy with the team's build so far.

At this stage, expecting the update this year might be wishful thinking, with very late in 2022 being the very earliest estimation - but we'd have to wait and see.

It's a shame to see Geralt cast to the cold like this - but at least it's not like we're missing a full game. We'll live in the meantime.
