There’s a cheaper way to get Sony’s Spider-Man PS5

Sony's new Spider-Man PlayStation 5 looks like it'll cost a small fortune, but don't worry, there's a cheaper way to celebrate Spider-Man 2's release.

The city needs saving again, and as we suit up for Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Sony is going on the assault to market the living crap out of the PlayStation 5-exclusive game. With Spider-Man 2 poised to be one of 2023's biggest games, we can hardly blame them.

As the follow-up to 2018's first Spider-Man game, Insomniac is going with the motto of bigger is better. More villains, a bigger city, and the dynamic duo of Miles Morales and Peter Parker means Spider-Man 2 is a supersized adventure. Alongside it, there's a supersized price tag for the Spider-Man-themed PS5.

Sony's Spider-Man PS5 costs a small fortune

To celebrate the release of Spider-Man 2, there's a special Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Bundle, including a custom console cover and matching DualSense wireless controller. You'd better start saving though, as it comes in at a hefty $599.99/£569.99. It also comes with a digital voucher for the game.

Despite console shortages, most of us who wanted to get a PS5 have likely got one by now, or might be waiting for Christmas. This makes splashing out another $600 on a new console quite the extravagance. Thankfully, there's a way to give your PS5 a Spider-Man makeover without the cost.

As part of the Spider-Man 2 line, Sony has also released the faceplates as a separate purchase. For just $64.99/£54.99 you can replicate the look without the price tag. There are faceplates for both Digital and Disc PS5s, so everyone is covered. Then again, there's the problem of getting your hands on them.

Where can you buy the Spider-Man PS5?

The orders are flowing in for the Spider-Man-themed PS5 at PS Direct UK, with orders also live in France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal. Although the console is still available for pre-order, the faceplates and DualSense controllers are already sold out, meaning someone stole our idea.

Orders are also live in the USA, while sites like Amazon and Best Buy are stocking the main console, the faceplates, and the themed DualSense controller. Given the popularity surrounding Spider-Man in general, let alone with a new game, they've been flying off shelves and are largely sold out already.

Whether you're stumping up for a full-blown Spidey-themed console, want to do it yourselves with faceplates, or are happy with a snazzy new DualSense, you might have to weave your own web in hopes of catching them, they're harder to catch than pictures of Spider-Man.
