It's a race to the finish for the next Grand Theft Auto game, and as GTA 6 comes into view, it's finally time for GTA V to bow out. After 11 years of loyal service, we think it's more than earned its retirement. Even though GTA V is an undoubtedly massive game, many will always lament the loss for what could've been.

While GTA V has been kept alive thanks to GTA Online's continued success (it's still churning out expansions), that came at the cost of planned single-player DLCs. Given how DLCs like GTA IV's The Ballad of Gay Tony, Red Dead's Undead Nightmare, and May Payne 3's Painful Memories are so beloved, it's a shame that GTA V missed out.

GTA V leak teases the DLC that never was

Although Rockstar has never officially acknowledged what happened to the proposed GTA V single-player DLCs, there were thought to be three episodic packs with the well-documented "Agent Trevor", a zombie apocalypse episode, and an alien invasion episode. There was also going to be a new casino heist featuring all three protagonists.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), @GTAFocal has shared a track titled "Clifford". This is reportedly from a band called Sweet Valley, which had already provided music for GTA V and claimed the track is from the canned Agent Trevor DLC.

It's definitely got a James Bond likeness to it, so we can see this being a track from Agent Trevor. Unfortunately, Rockstar is never likely to confirm whether this is the real deal, leaving us simply wishing for what will never be.

When the news was shared on Reddit, fans were disappointed and impressed in equal measure. One grumbled, "I hate online mode," while another added, "Rockstar is cool but then isn’t." Someone else concluded, "I will never forgive the guys who get no girls who bought Shark Cards and deprived us from greatness."

There are obvious worries that history could repeat itself with GTA 6. Rumours suggest we'll get multiple GTA 6 DLCs, but the same source suggests we'll have to wait up to two years for them. Considering we've had to wait so long for the next game, there are sure to be riots if Rockstar once again skips out on single-player DLCs. Make it happen, Rockstar.
