If you're looking for some summer lovin', you might be in the wrong place when jumping off the Battle Bus into Fortnite. Epic Games battle royale Goliath has been slapping on the sun cream and chilling the cocktails for its Summer Escape event, but already, it's showing signs of sunstroke.
Celebrating July 4, Fortnite kicked off the Summer Escape event, with players ready to dive into a fully immersive experience like 2022's No Sweat Summer. Instead of new quests, a summer-themed POI, and Lil Whip driving around the map in his ice cream truck, Fortnite's Summer Escape event is lacking.
Fortnite fans slam Summer Escape event
Over on Reddit, one viral post highlighted the problems with Summer Escape and harked back to the glory days of past events like Cosmic Summer and 14 Days of Summer. Instead, we've had some umbrellas pop up across the map.
It's true that Epic is asking you to get involved and complete a series of summer-themed events to earn XP between now and July 18, but it's hardly the summer extravaganza we're used to this time of year. The map has barely been touched by the rays of summer, and safe to say, players have taken note.
One critic fumed, "They just stopped doing seasonal events like they used to. Official LTMs will always be better than creative LTMs. Creative ones are the same shlock I could play in the discovery right now." Another added, "All I wanted was Surfboards and to play Storm Chasers: Surfin' LTM for one last time."
A third said, "I defended the new way that Epic does events for so long but it's just so obvious that it's not up to par anymore. We saw that with Halloween and Christmas last year too." A fourth concluded, "This whole season has been a huge disappointment."
The problem with Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3
The general consensus is that Epic is too preoccupied with Creative and "letting everyone do the work for them." Couple this with some pretty lacklustre Battle Pass skins, a continuous grind to earn XP, and a Transformers crossover most of you probably didn't ask for, Chapter 4 Season 3 is falling short.
Fortnite summer events were once something to get excited for, but for whatever reason, those leaked surfboard vehicles haven't even made it into the Summer Escape event. With ice cream consumables summing up the core of the Summer Escape event, maybe it's a good thing Chapter 5 is supposedly coming sooner than expected.
