Marcus Fenix is tipped for an upgrade, as a remastered collection of classic Gear of Wars games is reportedly on the way. While we've heard The Coalition is working on Gears 6, it's apparently years away. In the meantime, what about playing some old favourites all over again?
We first stepped foot on Sera to battle the Locust Horde back in 2006. Since then, the Gears name has grown to be a juggernaut of Xbox exclusives that's up there with the likes of Fable, Forza, and (of course) Halo. Away from 2015's Gears of War: Ultimate Edition remastering the OG, there could be more on the way.
Is Gears Of War Getting Its Own Master Chief Collection?
Back in January, XboxEra podcast's Speshal Nick Baker claimed a major Xbox exclusive would be getting its own Master Chief Collection-inspired revamp. At the time, it was purely speculation on whether this would be Gears of War, Fable, or something completely different.
Baker is back, and in his latest episode of the podcast, explained: "A while back I said there is another Microsoft franchise that’s getting the Master Chief Collection-type treatment, I am of the belief that that is coming this year."
He continued, "If you go from November 2021 to November 2022, and you look at Microsoft’s big game output, it could wind up being Halo, Gears, Forza." Although he didn't give Gears the official nod, he added that "everyone has guessed it," which prompted his co-hosts to simply reply with... "Gears". That section of the video is even named "Oh, Gears Collection?"
Why Gears Of War Makes The Most Sense
Grove Street Games' disastrous GTA Trilogy might not be the best example, however, the potential was there. The original trilogy of Gears games is looking pretty dated by now, and with titles like 2018's Red Dead Redemption 2 already being tipped for a remake, even Ultimate Edition is overdue a remake. Much like Master Chief Collection led into Infinite, giving Gears the same treatment makes sense ahead of Gears 6.
Remember, there have been complaints that Microsoft has doomed itself in 2022. After the release of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite, other big releases like Starfield and Redfall have been pushed into 2023. This means players are rightly asking whether the Xbox powerhouse has anything left to reveal this year. With E3 just around the corner, we'll keep our eyes peeled for the muscular might of Marcus.
