Threads promises Twitter features and browser version

Even a day after its launch, it looks like Threads is gearing up to make the service a Twitter clone, but Meta might want to look out for Elon Musk.

The future is here. Maybe. The Meta-built Twitter competitor known as Threads has finally arrived. Its leap out of nowhere might've taken us by surprise, but having attracted 30 million users in 24 hours and offering a Twitter alternative, it's been a treat.

To be a functioning Twiter-alike without the signature toxicity and negativity, users finally have that dopamine centre to catch up with mates without having to shell out for the pleasure, or worse, have to watch Elon Musk blow smoke up his own backside.

This is just the start of Threads, and now, the social media platform is promising more fan-requested features no more than a day after its launch.

It looks like the Threads team is aiming to stay proactive when it comes to updating the site, as they're keeping users up to date on their plans.

Threads boss Adam Mosseri has revealed through a series of posts on the social network that he's trying to keep on top of fan requests. The use of hashtags and a feed exclusively for content from accounts that the user follows are already in the works.

Mosseri has also made it clear that he wants to build a desktop Threads site to go alongside the app version, but for now, the app itself will stand as their priority.

There's no real timeline for these additions just yet, but they might need to get to it pronto because Musk is throwing his toys out of the pram.

Elon Musk is threatening to sue Meta

As the owner of Twitter and the weird side of the internet's even weirder uncle, Elon Musk has made his feelings about Threads clear, as he's threatening to sue Meta for supposedly ripping Twitter off.

A new letter from Twitter lawyers (via Semafor) has told Meta that Twitter itself "has serious concerns that Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter's trade secrets and other intellectual property." Meow.

Musk tends to be all bark and no bite, so we'll see where this threat leads - but in the meantime, users are loving Threads. What a breath of fresh air.
