Many of the problems Call of Duty faces with its annual releases stem from launching games that simply aren't ready.
Vanguard, Modern Warfare 3, and even to some extent Cold War, all suffered from not having long enough in the lab and being rushed out to fit the year-after-year quota.
But Black Ops 6 is ditching this theme of rushed releases, as Treyarch has actually had a complete game for two years, with the last 24 months focusing on polishing its product.
Black Ops 6 playtester claims game has been ready for two years
Following the Black Ops 6 reveal, some devs who have been actively playing and testing the title have now come forward to say just how excited they are about the product.
"I’ve been waiting over two years to say this, #BlackOps6 will be the best Black Ops game ever! No cap," said one Treyarch employee named Andy Yoon.
The team has reportedly had testing for two years, as other devs shared a similar story. "I’ve been playtesting this one for 2 years! y’all aren’t ready," said another Game Designer from Treyarch, who has been primarily focusing on Zombies.
Zombies is reportedly shaping up to be a work of art, with other devs saying that the round-based undead-shooting simulation will have a great storyline to continue on from Cold War.
Is Treyarch be setting up for success or failure?
The thing is, having a product ready for so long also removes most of the excuses that a studio can give if the game doesn't live up to expectations.
At this point, CoD fans will be imploring that Treyarch has a full portfolio of original Multiplayer maps, a handful of round-based Zombies experiences with varying Easter eggs, a new open-world Campaign, and a live-service model ready to keep them all entertained for the next year. Not much.
Still, Black Ops 6 has been four years in the making, and knowing that levels have been playable for two years already gives a lot of confidence to a community that is growing tired of failed launches.
Black Ops 6 is set to be revealed in full on June 9, with a possible Alpha play test coming soon after.
