Ubisoft confirms multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes, but you only want one

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that multiple Assassin's Creed remakes are on the way, and while the options are unlimited, you're throwing your support behind a Black Flag remake.

As long-running gaming franchises go, few have churned them out as consistently (for better or worse) than Assassin's Creed. Ever since Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad first slinked into our lives in 2007, we've been around the globe and through time. There's no sign of the series slowing down, and in fact, we're diving back into the past of the Animus.

From highs like AC2 and Black Flag to lows like Unity and Rogue, there's something for everyone in the Assassin's Creed Universe - delivering games almost as consistently as Call of Duty. Now, there's word that those long-rumoured Assassin's Creed remakes are on the way.

Multiple Assassin's Creed remakes are coming

Despite the franchise's relatively infancy, we're surprised Ubisoft has never released an Assassin's Creed remake, especially as some say the OG's mechanics make it 'unplayable' in 2024. In a new interview with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, he confirms that multiple games are getting a new lease of life.

Shared on the Ubisoft site, Guillemot confirmed the publisher's plans for the legacy of Assassin's Creed and suggested some of the older games will be on the docket when he explained, "Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them."

Expanding on what Ubisoft is planning, Guillemot continued, "There are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich." It seems Ubisoft is mixing up the formula of bigger games like Valhalla and smaller ones like Mirage, potentially interspersed with modern remakes.

Guillemot continued, "The goal is to have Assassin's Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year." We're reminded of Capcom's current model of Resident Evil releasing a mix of a mainline game, DLCs, and modern remakes.

Give us Black Flag

As for which titles you want to see remade, there's a clear fan-favourite which we could've easily guessed. For many, they want to see 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remade. The nautical adventure is largely held as one of the franchise's best, but after the flop of Skull & Bones, is this the best choice?

Responding to the news on X (formerly Twitter), there was a steady stream of suggestions for which games Ubisoft should tackle first. One fan cheered, "All they need to do is remake the Ezio Trilogy and I think many fans will be very happy," while another added, "Everything leading up to and including Revelations is a must. Please!!"

There was all the typical negativity, with NikTek saying, "Let's f**king go (Ubisoft will probably make them worse)," but for now, we'll remain cautiously optimistic. Until we know more about what Guillemot's plans are for these legacy Assassin's Creed games, we're sure there will be a fierce debate about what you want (and don't want) to see.
