The ever-expanding world of Marvel video games could be about to sink its teeth into something new, with rumours of a Blade video game from Ubisoft doing the rounds. As Mahershala Ali gets ready to play the stoic day walker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is a tie-in game also on the way?

Marvel games are all the rage these days, and alongside Insomniac leading the charge with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, we've seen titles including Marvel's Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as an upcoming release from Uncharted's Amy Hennig. Even though Blade will appear in Marvel's Midnight Suns, others are hoping he'll get a game of his own.

Is Ubisoft Working On A Blade Game?

Over on YouTube, JorRaptor noted that recent posts over the last month have pointed toward a Blade game from Ubisoft. Actor Edwin Gaffney shared some snaps of him doing motion capture work at Ubisoft, and although he didn't directly mention Blade, there was a marker with the word "marvel."

If this wasn't enough, the marker also had the name B. Tariq was there as director. Given that Bassam Tariq is directing the MCU's Blade movie with Ali as the lead, it wasn't too much to connect the dots. Finally, Gaffney's post featured him and fellow actor Alex Martin holding katanas - which are Blade's signature choice of weapon.

Before you start racing to the blood bank though, Ubisoft has dashed our hopes of a Blade project. As the news started doing the rounds, the official Ubisoft Twitter account said: "Sorry to slice up the rumors, we're not making a Blade game but we can't wait to see what our friends at @MarvelStudios are cooking up for next year's movie!"

Should We Get A Blade Game?

Just because Ubisoft isn't working on a Blade game, that doesn't mean a renewed interest in the character thanks to the MCU won't spur one into action. Marvel's Spider-Man includes references to everyone from Doctor Strange to Black Panther, and if Insomniac builds a Marvel Gaming Universe (fingers crossed), Blade would be a popular choice.

Vampire games are all the rage these days, and if it's not Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, games like Redfall and V Rising have been grabbing our attention. Let's also remember, there are hopes Castlevania will return. Skulking around the shadows as Blade sounds like a lot of fun - especially if it was like Bloodborne. Sadly, there's seemingly no Blade game in active development right now. Well, that sucks
